We hear a lot of discourse that to make a living as a freelance journalist you have to have lots of different income streams. In fact many of the most well-known freelance journalists do make a large proportion of their money from other things that make use of their journalism skills, such as copywriting, PR, public speaking, teaching or their own newsletter or podcast.
Here at FFJ we would certainly advocate avoiding putting all your eggs in one basket but that does not mean you have to do lots of jobs outside journalism in order to make a living. I am proof of that. Having just done my tax return I have the figures to back this up.
