Don’t miss out – enter the Freelance Journalism Awards before 29 August
Happy bank holiday – the perfect time to enter the awards
Happy bank holiday everyone! If you have a little extra time today, why not use it to make sure your best work gets the recognition it deserves. The Freelance Journalism Awards 2025 are open now – and the deadline to enter is midnight on Friday 29 August. That’s just five days away!
Now in its third year, these are the only awards dedicated to celebrating freelance journalists based in the UK. Entry is completely free, and you can enter as many categories as you like (one entry per category).
This year’s categories are:
Best Specialist Journalist - sponsored by Literature and Latte - Makers of Scrivener and Scapple
Best News Story – sponsored by Paydesk
Best Feature – sponsored by the NUJ London Freelance Branch
Best Investigation – sponsored by the NUJ London Freelance Branch
Best Opinion Writer or Columnist
Best Piece of Work by a Student or Early Career Journalist – sponsored by Women in Journalism
Shortlists will be announced in September before our panel of freelance editors and journalists choose the winners. Category winners will each receive £100, a trophy, and a guest spot on our awards podcast series.
To qualify, your entry must have been produced between 6 April 2024 and 5 April 2025 in a freelance capacity. Please check the category criteria carefully before entering.
The winners will be revealed in October via this newsletter and our social channels.
These awards are about celebrating the essential contributions of freelance journalists, and we’re grateful to our sponsors for helping us shine a spotlight on your work.
Best of luck!
Bye for now!
