Money. At the end of the day that’s what freelancers want to know about. How do I earn it, how do I negotiate more of it and how do I keep hold of it. So we’ve decided it’s time to talk finance and are launching a new feature for the premium newsletter.

Alongside our regular slots of successful pitch examples, Q&As, recommendations and peek at my week, we will be discussing money matters and opening up our own books. Everything from how much we earn for particular stories, to how big our expenses are, to our ALCS payment amounts, to our quickest paying clients. We will be spilling the proverbial beans on how we make our money as freelancers, to help readers navigate their own financial waters. If you have any particular financial questions, do let us know.

In the first of this series Lily will be explaining where her income comes from. With a diverse portfolio including everything from lecturing to feature writing to running coaching, Lily has enough income streams to make any accountant’s head spin. In the newsletter today she shows what percentage of her income actually comes from freelance journalism and what a diverse portfolio actually looks like.

Read on to find out more.
