The best way to secure a steady income as a freelancer is to have a few strings to your bow. This week one of my favourite and reliable editors told me she was moving to a new role (and not one where she would be commissioning). It is a pertinent reminder that nothing lasts forever. Budgets try up, publications close. Hopefully whoever takes over her job will be keen to take ideas from me but I’m always very cautious about future proofing my work.

In this week’s Premium newsletter on finances I’m going to go through the last six months of the tax year - October 2024 to March 2025 - to take a detailed look at the type of work that brought in the most income. We would recommend all freelancers do this from time to time as well as reflecting on the time that different types of work take.

So let’s take a look!
