I write a lot about running and come across lots of amazing stories about runners. The thing is though, not everyone is into running (I know, they’re weird, right?). So sometimes placing these stories takes a little more thought because they don’t have mass market appeal. Finding the right publication for your real life story is crucial to getting it picked up, particularly if it is centred around a niche experience / interest / sport. So in today’s premium newsletter I am going to share the story of an ultra runner which I had commissioned by Women’s Health and the story of another long distance runner that was published in the South China Morning Post newspaper. The principles would be the same if you were writing about any niche topic. Read on to see the pitches, the editors’ responses and the explanation for why they were commissioned.
