Each month we share successful pitch examples so our premium subscribers can see exactly what a real life pitch looks like. But we also thought it would be useful to share emails which we have sent to editors to simply introduce ourselves. Getting the wording right can lead to regular commissions and a fantastic working relationship.

Both of the examples shared today were emails sent in response to an editor putting a call out. Instead of asking for pitches, the editors were asking for freelancers with the right expertise to get in touch for shift work or to be added to their pool of ‘go to’ writers.

These emails are basically mini CVs, where you need to sell yourself in a couple of sentences to attract an editor’s attention. We share two examples and explain the context, and why we think they worked.
