One of the perks of being a journalist is that you can get invited on press trips. But as a freelancer you can also be competing for a space alongside staff journalists.

In this week’s newsletter I explain how I secured a commission off the back of a trip to Italy despite all the publications I write for also receiving an invitation.

I explain how going on a generic press trip can actually help editors out (especially if you have a niche) and how to get enough information to secure a commission before travelling.
