Twice a year we open up our Journalism Work Experience and Mentorship Scheme to give aspiring journalists the opportunity to work 1-2-1 with an experienced media professional.
This week we are launching our first scheme of 2023 which has 100 places available.
In order to take part you need to register by noon this Wednesday (March 15th). On Wednesday at 3pm we will give a briefing on the scheme, explaining how it works and how to make the most of the opportunity.
If you can’t attend the live briefing we will send you a video link afterwards as long as you are registered in time. Once you have attended / viewed the briefing you will gain access to a database of remote work experience opportunities.
You have a whole year to do the work experience and can work with as many journalists as you like in order to build a portfolio of experience.
On the database are journalists working in print, online and broadcasting in all manner of specialisms including health, business, travel, politics, international affairs, sport, fashion and many more. These freelance journalists work for the BBC, national newspapers and magazines plus local and hyperlocal publications.
Most of the opportunities are in the UK but there are a few overseas in countries such as Spain, India and Kenya.
The scheme is open to anyone from any country who has an interest in journalism. You do not need to be a journalism student or graduate or have any prior experience.
Previous participants have gone on to secure regular paid work with their mentors or even enjoyed a free press trip to Spain.
The work experience opportunities are flexible and negotiated between the participant and the journalist so you can fit it around your work / life / studies.
You can read more about it in this journalism.co.uk article.
If you would like to register then please make sure you sign up before noon on Wednesday, March 15th. That’s just two days time!
