Back in August I wrote a newsletter about a forthcoming press trip and shared examples of the angles I was looking to pitch. The excursion was a four-day visit to Bermuda where I sampled a range of tourist attractions and activities, and I ran 20 miles of the Bermuda marathon course route.
The trip was hosted by Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge, a series of road races on the island, held across a weekend in January. My host wanted me to promote the race as well as tourism on the island more generally.
The trip was designed specifically for me, so I had a lot of control over what I did, and the angles I could pitch.
In the end I came away with four commissions from the trip and three of these were quite different to the ideas I outlined back in August. I wrote four separate pieces for Adventure.com, Metro, South China Morning Post and Live for the Outdoors.
Two of these were focused on running and the others were more general travel pieces.
In the newsletter today I am sharing two of the pitches that were commissioned along with an explanation of why the ideas worked.
